12/24/2023 0 Comments Gaia project solo walkthroughUnlike Terra Mystica, Gaia Project can be played solo. It’s not just a mirrored copy of the previous one rather better. But if you have already played and loved Terra Mystica, you are bound to enjoy even more this rethemed space version called Gaia Project.įor instance, in Terra Mystica you attempt to terraform new landscapes into habitable environments, but in Gaia Projects, its planets. Regardless it is a game I feel everyone should at least experience once. For a newbie in resource building and heavy strategy games, Gaia Project rules may seem very puzzling. Perhaps something to keep in mind from my experiences. I sometimes struggle to navigate this "polarity" as I can't always find a sweet spot, namely a game with some challenge but not one I require a nap afterwards. This means my laid back games are quick, but dont offer a real challenge, whereas the brutal games are long and can be exhausting. But if in the mood, I'll up the lvl to 5-6, but in that setting you cannot make a mistake and I find MY games lasting 4 hours+ with three spirits in play. For me personally, if I want a breezy relaxed experience, I will play solo two-handed against lvl 3 or lower adversaries (which give "perks" to the invaders making them stronger), a game which moves along quickly. SI is great for changing the difficulty of the game. If you and your significant other like to challenge yourselves, however, SI can become a long game-not to mention its set up and tear down time are also up there. (Granted I have played about 50 games of the base game) I find the four "newer" ones play quite a bit differently and are great to freshen up the experience. The eight spirits in the base game are great, but despite the combinations and synergies between them, I got a little burnt out because five of them or so are a bit too straight forward for my liking. I can't help you make a decision, but I can offer my thoughts on Spirit Island-my #1 game.Ĭoncerning replayability, if available, I would highly recommend getting the first promo pack (adds two spirits) and the first expansion (Branch and Claw which adds another two spirits but dont play with the expansion immediately). You guys also helped put a lot of new games on my radar for future purchase. I will be for sure getting Spirit Island in the future but I realized I still have to finish Pandemic Legacy 2p before I focus on getting any 2-player-specific (for me) games. The consensus seems to be a sub 2 hour game is common, which was really my only concern with this game. The main reason being after reading all the feedback given and other posts on BGG I realized the playtime is far lower than I had anticipated. I'll update with my through when I get to play in a few days, just in case anyone ends up finding this post by searching. UPDATE Edit: In case anyone is wondering, I settled on A Feast For Odin as my next game. I'm looking for any feedback, including recommendations not on my radar. I also think the theme is something my girlfriend would struggle to look past and enjoy. My main concern is this will never make it to the table 2-player because of the setup times and probably play time. Anyone who own the game that concurs with this or is it just one of those games you have to try for yourself to enjoy?Ī Feast For Odin - i think I would really enjoy this game. My main concern is the game seemed a bit repetitive when I was watching a playthrough solo 1 spirit. Spirit Island - seems like there is decent complexity and seems simple enough for 2-player. It needs to be a very good solo game more so than 2-player (the 2-player aspect would just be more of a bonus). So I'm looking for something in-line with the play time of the 2-player games, but with the strategy depth of something like Gaia Project. Out of the games I own, I think her favorites are Terraforming Mars and Pandemic however, the former never makes it to the table because it takes us 3-4 hours to finish a game. I know most people don't like this in a game, but I like that there is a point system to let me compete against my previous best scores.įor the 2-player aspect - I'd like a game I could also play with my girlfriend. It feels fresh every time it is played due to the modular board, immense number of factions, extremely varying and viable strategies, and much more.Įach play has a "skirmish" style, where you are pitted against an enemy with a fresh start and plenty of choices to make.Įxtreme replayability and always room to improve strategy (with little luck involved) My favorite solo board game is Gaia Project.
